This roundtable discussion will include contributions from civil society and academic experts. It will summarize the criteria for effective governance. It will also explore the ethical principles necessary for such governance mechanisms to be accepted at the global level. It will evaluate the outcomes from the Stockholm +50 Conference taking place from 2-3 June 2022. Finally, discussion of the Stockholm +50 outcomes will be assessed according to whether they can be pragmatically carried forward at the COP-27 (7-18 November 2022 in Egypt) and the proposed Summit of the Future (September 2023 in New York). Emphasis will be placed on the strategies necessary to activate these options, for state and non-state actors alike. The event will support continuing action by the partners to take this issue forward in the context of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and implementation of the UN Secretary-General’s Our Common Agenda report.
