- Sanctions
UN sanctions and mediation are frequently coincident, though their sequencing and degree of coordination vary over time and across conflict situations. Roundtable participants will discuss the results of their research organized by the United Nations University’s (UNU) Centre for Policy Research on Sanctions and Mediation (the SMP Project) which is also forthcoming as a special section of the journal Global Governance. The research was supported by the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs and had the active engagement of the UN’s Mediation Support Unit and its Sanctions Branch. Cases considered in the project include Sierra Leone, Yemen, South Sudan, Afghanistan, Somalia, and Libya.
